Gran Gala with Plácido Domingo

Gran Gala with Plácido Domingo

Offering an evening of enchanting music that combines the charm of Spanish and Neapolitan melodies with some of the most famous arias ever written, Gran Gala with Plácido Domingo takes place in Torre del Lago, the town Giacomo Puccini called home for many years during his impressive career. Forming part of the annual Puccini Festival, this event is hosted by one of the world's foremost names in operatic performance today. The concert is staged at the Gran Teatro all’aperto Giacomo Puccini, the festival's venue. Located next to the charming Massaciuccoli Lake, the theatre isn’t far from the maestro's former residence in the town which is now a museum dedicated to his life and work.

As well as the expected arias drawn from Puccini's extensive body of work, the gala event features music taken from operetta and zarzuela, a traditional Spanish genre of musical theatre that Domingo excels in. As such, the concert offers a unique musical encounter which blends passion, elegance and tradition seamlessly. The Italian conductor Marcello Rota takes charge of proceedings as the event's musical director. Rota has served as the Principal Guest Conductor of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague and collaborated with the Puccini Festival at Torre del Lago in the past.

Domingo is joined on stage by María José Siri, a Uruguayan opera singer who has been widely recognised as one of the most exciting sopranos on the international operatic circuit today. She studied at the Paris Conservatoire, making her professional European debut in 2008 when she took on the role of Leonora in Verdi's Il Trovatore at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. Siri has performed at Torre del Lago before, notably in a production of Manon Lescaut in 2025. The soprano has also worked with Domingo in the past, including performing with him at the prestigious Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

The gala headliner, Plácido Domingo, needs little by way of introduction, a man who will be forever synonymous, alongside Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras, as one-third of the famous Three Tenors. Domingo is not only an operatic superstar but a global ambassador for Spanish culture, including his great passion for promoting zarzuela traditions to a wider audience. A winner of 12 Grammy Awards for his recordings, Domingo is not only a singer but a talented conductor, too, with hundreds of professional performances at the podium to his name. With such an illustrious performer, audiences can expect an exceptional evening of music since Gran Gala with Plácido Domingo at Torre del Lago promises a huge amount of top-class musical entertainment.
